ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT
In the Department of Philosophy, one is required to attend lectures and study for eight semesters. When he fulfils all the requirements at the end of these semesters he is awarded the B.Phil (Hons) degree from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome (Urban), and a B.A (Hons) in philosophy from the Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU).
It is a general rule that any candidate who fails to obtain a minimum pass mark in three courses in any given semester for two consecutive years, may discontinue. However, the holistic formation (human, spiritual, intellectual, pastoral and general discipline; cf. Seminary Rules), for the priesthood makes for a balanced training and formation. The academic formation complements and finds expression in the holistic formation. This makes a seminarian distinct from any other student.
1. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
For a student to obtain admission into the philosophy department he must be sent by his local ordinary and must posses the basic requirement which generally correspond to admission requirement into Nigeria universities, these include:
1. The West African school certificate/ G.C.E with credit in at least five subjects including English language in one or two sittings.
2. Any relevant qualification as judged by the Academic Board of the Seminary and or the department.
